Short and Sweet and Obedient
Being able to work on my laptop without my baby trying to type with me is a wonderful thing. We have also trained her not to touch my cell phone when I have it sitting on the table next to me. She’s pretty much allowed to get into anything else she wants and if there is something else we don’t want her to get in to then we do the work of keeping it put up out of her way.
We have a box where we keep things that we use for Mom School every day. We get it out when we need it and put it back when we’re done. We sit in the living room for school time and I was constantly trying to keep Sweetness out of this box. Finally yesterday I said, “ENOUGH! We are training her to stay out of it!” So Persistence put her in time out (in a portable crib in the hall so it’s close) for one minute every time she touched it. She went about five times before she decided not to go near that box again. Fabulous!
I love how I don’t have to just put up with problems with my children anymore or wait for them to decide to obey me which never happens. We have a plan that works and we are all so much happier!
So who is going to put me in time out every time I misbehave? The great thing about our new plan is that training my children has trained me. Just ask Sailor how obedient I am these days. Mostly. I wouldn’t want to lose all the spunkiness that he loves so much about me.
P.S.
This is my attempt to start writing posts that are short and sweet. I’ll never stick to it but I have to try.

“Obedient” has been (until recently) the word I only brought out when I was at my wit’s end with the children… until I realized that I would always be at my wit’s end if I didn’t make my expectations clear. Now, if I can only remain firm… Thanks for the inspiration.
