Patience Persistence

Apparently a few people were bugged by my twitter today.  Or very curious.  I’m not trying to be a tease.  I promise.  I just have a lot of things I want to blog about and not enough time.  I guess I think if I say I’m going to blog about it then I will have to find the time to do it but then that still doesn’t work.

I was on my way to bed early tonight and was just finishing up this post when Channing called to help me solve all the world’s problems and we talked for three hours.  Now it’s way past my bed time but here are a few questions for you to start thinking about.  Apparently I’m giving homework now.  If you want to read my blog I want a paper on these questions by 5:00 p.m. tomorrow and then we’ll discuss.

What are the roles of everyone in your home?  What should the Daddy, the Mommy and all the children be doing?  What are their responsibilities?

  • Who should be going out into the world to make money for the family?
  • Whose job is it to spend the money?  (I can answer that right now.  Me!  That was easy.)
  • Who should stay home to teach and protect the children?
  • Who should be playing and learning from their parents?

The answers may seem obvious but they might not be as obvious as they appear.  At least they weren’t to me.  We may not have been filling the correct roles around here but we have been trying to get on the right track and we made another huge leap today.  Huge!

We really did turn our lives maybe not completely upside down but definitely a little sideways.  Back to where they should have been all along.  Sailor and I had a little talk at 2:00 in the morning that led to a big talk with the children at 8:00 in the morning.  Surprisingly there were no tears.  Maybe a few moist eyes and sniffles but no drops.  And then we went on with our day as if nothing had ever happened but everything was different.

Dare I tell more?  Most of you won’t understand but there may be a couple of you who need to hear about what we have done because you need to do it too so I will risk the wrath of the many in case it helps a few.

Here are some other questions I have been pondering.

  • What kinds of games should children be playing?
  • What kinds of toys should they have?
  • When children dress up what should they pretend to be?
  • What is the deal with Halloween anyway?
  • What could we be doing instead?
  • How do you teach children to love each other and get along?

That might be the million dollar question right there and guess what?  I finally have the answer but I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.

Patience.  More to come.

P.S.  That reminds me.  I need a new blog name for my baby.  How about Patience?  It describes her as you will see in another post.  There I go teasing again but this time I have actual photos and I really will blog about it.

That would also describe my husband who pulls the car over almost (almost) every time I say, “Stop!  I need to take a picture of that!  Don’t you think cabbages are worth pulling over for?
