How To Trick Your Kids Into Thinking They’re On Vacation

I don’t think I mentioned here where I was going last week.   I spent three days in Salt Lake City at the Book Publishing 2.0 seminar.  I was nervous about going because it was a sacrifice for my family and I didn’t know if it would really be worth my time.   Sailor and I had already left the kids for four days the week before and I didn’t want to leave everyone again so I suggested that Sailor bring the kids and they play at the hotel while I was in meetings from 9-9.  It wasn’t ideal but I think they had more fun than sitting at home for three days and at least I got to change the messy diapers every morning before I left.  I don’t like to give details about those sorts of things but believe me when I say there were details.  Every.  Single. Morning.  That was why I went to the seminar with wet hair every day and spent the breaks in the bathroom with my straight iron.

We stayed at a beautiful new hotel in the most amazing suite with a full kitchen.  It was wonderful to be able to prepare our own healthy food away from home.  They served a free hot breakfast (not healthy but it made my children happy) and had a shuttle service so sailor didn’t have to drive me to the seminar every day.

I had lunch out with friends while my family was skating and bouncing away at the Classic Fun Center.   They spent an entire day there and Sailor said the kids never got tired of it.

I had a fabulous time at the seminar and learned a lot.  If you are thinking about writing a book and are new to blogging it would be worth your time to go to one of these seminars.  I have a whole new game plan now so I might actually finish this book I’m writing and I got inspiration for a few other projects as well.  I want to make my seminar available as an audio download and maybe even produce a DVD.  Fun!

These are things I’ve been thinking about doing for years but I never had the energy to make them happen.  I was nervous about even telling anyone I want to write  a book.  Can I really do it?

Why not?  I can do anything I set my mind to can’t I?  If I told you about all the other projects I have underway you would think I was crazy so I will have to reveal them a little bit at a time.  All I can say is that I’m having a great time and I’m so happy that I followed the inspiration I received this year to eat right,  simplify our lives and stick to  a schedule because now I am finally able to do all these exciting things.

The seminar was a long, intense three days but I’m a seminar junkie so I loved every minute of it.

I got to know a friend of mine a little bit better and I met some great people while I was there.  Here are a few of them that I could find links for. I didn’t get information from everyone so if you were at the seminar and you have a blog please forward the link to me and I’ll add it here.

My friend Martina at Choices That Change You
Monique DiCarlo from Picky Eater
Mark Effinger from Thought Office
Michael Drew from Promote A Book Inc.
Chris Maddock from The Wizard Academy
Ron Porter from Boot Strap Business
Garrett Gunderson from Killing Sacred Cows

Fun, fun, fun.  I hope I run into these people again.  Friend me on Facebook if you want to see a few more photos.

  1. i saw your kids at classic skate–one walked by and I thought, “hey that looks like…” then the others whizzed by so it was confirmed. you’ll be happy to know that it looked like Muscles was taking good care of his baby sister. :)

  2. Isn’t Costa Vida heavenly? I love it. We have that restaurant here but I now make that food at home.
